About the Ozone Programme
The Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Management Programme (The Ozone Programme) was established in 1994. The programme serves as the focal point for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (VC) and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of policies, plans, projects and activities to achieve the phase-out of ODS and phase down of HFCs at the national level by globally agreed timelines.

Core responsibilities of the programme include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining monitoring and enforcement regimes for Montreal Protocol Compliance such as the ODS Import/Export Licensing System and the HCFC Quota System
- Executing education and awareness initiatives for stakeholders and the wider public
- Enhancing national awareness of Montreal Protocol related issues and of Barbados’ activities to achieve its objectives
- Establishing and/or strengthening the linkages and cooperation between national authorities, the private sector and relevant non-governmental organisations
- Maintaining the currency of reporting to the Implementing Agencies (IAs) and to the Ozone and Multilateral Fund (MLF) Secretariats respectively.
- Collecting and analysing data on consumption of Montreal Protocol controlled chemicals
- Preparing reports concerning Barbados’ implementation progress
- Developing policies, programmes and activities to maintain Montreal Protocol compliance
- Participating in regional and international discourse on VC and MP related matters
